Riding the Rails: Offroad Adventure on the Bunkerville Choo Choo Route | Nevada
The Bunkerville Choo Choo offroad route in Nevada winds through the Virgin Mountain foothills, offering a thrilling journey past historic mines, scenic canyons like the Seeps, and natural wonders like Keyhole Rock, all amidst free range cattle grazing lands.
The Bunkerville Choo Choo offroad route in Nevada is a captivating trail that combines history, natural beauty, and thrilling offroad challenges. Located near Bunkerville, this trail spans approximately 30 miles and winds through the picturesque Virgin Mountain foothills. Its name pays homage to a rail car that was once used as a water tender for cattle grazing in the area, highlighting its historical significance.
As offroad enthusiasts embark on this adventure, they encounter a variety of terrains ranging from sandy washes to rocky ridges and narrow canyons. The trail is known for its technical obstacles and diverse landscape, making it a favorite among those seeking both excitement and scenic views of the Mojave Desert.
Along the route, adventurers will come across remnants of the Key West Mine and the Great Eastern Mine, reminders of the region's mining history. The trail also passes through the stunning Seeps Canyon, where the natural beauty of the granite rock formations can be admired. One of the notable landmarks on the Bunkerville Choo Choo trail is Keyhole Rock, a captivating natural arch that beckons travelers to pause and take in its unique beauty.
Moreover, the trail traverses free range cattle grazing land, so travelers should keep an eye out for livestock along the way. The combination of historical sites, natural wonders, and challenging terrain makes the Bunkerville Choo Choo offroad route a memorable and rewarding experience for offroad enthusiasts exploring the rugged landscapes of Nevada.

    Believe it or no, that old Servel refrigerator used Kerosene, natural gas or LPG. They were the best you could get if you did not have readily available electricity or stored winter ice.

    Early automobiles had gas tanks between placed between the front seat and the engine so gravity was great for getting gasoline to the old carburetors of that time.

    We had a cabin on the water up there until about 25 yrs ago...just got too crowded and crazy so sadly, we sold it off. Had our own pier too. That water there at the end of the pier you showed is around 20+ feet deep, depending on the lake level!!!

    Thank you so much for making these videos. You bring back some really good memories. ❤My husband and I got married in the Tombstone Court house on November 26th, 1976. My family and I just revisited Tombstone this year, April 14th, 2024, to see the courthouse and the worlds largest rose bush in bloom. While touring the museum, we were fortunate to meet their great-great grandson Dan, who lives in San Antonio, Texas now. His cousins run the business now. He was visiting for the weekend. He allowed me to video him while he was telling us all about the history of his great-great grandparents coming to Tombstone in a covered wagon, his family and stories about the mine. It was an absolutely amazing experience. I wish I could share the videos with you someday. I'm so glad I found your channel ❤ Ty again!

    I'm taking my oldest daughter to Capitol Reef this summer, but because of a medical appointment for her in Denver right before then, we have to actually drive from there instead of from home. On a whim, I checked out the availability at Devil's Garden and there was actually a space open to stay there the night before my reservation at the Fruita campground in Capitol Reef. I'm excited to take her there and check out some of the features we weren't able to see during our last Arches trip a couple years ago.

    Back in the early 70’s when I was living in Vegas we would camp out just down the road at the old mine (can’t remember it name). Back then Nelson was a real ghost town, one old guy living there and no trespassing posted everywhere and he meant it, most of the buildings were pretty dilapidated, none of those vehicles. In 1974-1975 there was a pretty big flash flood, it didn’t do much to Nelson but at the end of the road at lake Mojave there used to be a marina, all of that was destroyed in the flood, the road going there was washed out with one point there was a 50 foot drop off where there used to be roadway. Then at another point the old guy living at Nelson cleaned out the old leaching tanks, they say he became a millionaire with the gold in it, he then moved away.

    • @CactusAtlas
      @CactusAtlas 3 дні тому

      Read about that flood you speak of. Didn't know about any 50 ft drop off though. MAN. Intense! It would be cool to see how Nelson looked at that point in time compared to now.

    You said "Sierra Nevada" instead of "Sierras" or "Sierra Nevadas", and you pronounced Mono Lake correctly. Great video so far, but you lost me at Hetch Hetchy, which is NOWHERE NEAR the Eastside. It's in the Western Sierra. If you're gonna do the Eastern Sierra and 395, then you missed out on The Alabama Hills. Why? Weird. Thank you for your work. Colorado ZR2 is one of the most capable vehicles you can get stock. IMO, trail should be rated for the worst obstacle that you can't bypass. Note, conditions change. Unless the info you are getting about a trail was very recent, don't assume. I've gotten burned by watching videos that were 5 years old.... I wish UA-camrs would put disclaimers telling people to get current conditions whenever possible.

    • @CactusAtlas

    Is onx on your phone? I've had small issues here and there but holding the phone out the window or even up on the dash more into the windshield usually helps. GPS is all about view to the sky, it works pretty decent in a vehicle but with canyons sometimes that combines with the big metal roof blocking it to cancel it out. I've never had issue with it in my side by side and no big metal roof or metal doors surrounding the phone.

    • @CactusAtlas

    Fun video, thank you bringing us along for the adventure! As far as trail rating go, I have always liked the way this was defined by Charles & Matt in their awesome series of books including "Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel-Drive Trails". They mention the very subjective nature of ratings, the role weather/environment plays in changing trail conditions and the vehicle used to explore the trail. Also the Overall rating of a trail is based on the most difficult section, because that is the capability needed to complete the entire trail. Great books, check them out!
